New York Mets Lose MVP Candidate to Injury
Lindor to Miss 6-8 Weeks With Torn Ligament
The New York Mets have lost MVP candidate Francisco Lindor to a torn ligament in his right thumb. Lindor suffered the injury while attempting to make a diving stop on a ground ball in the first inning of the Mets' game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday. He immediately left the game and underwent an MRI, which revealed the extent of the injury.
Lindor is expected to miss 6-8 weeks, a major blow to the Mets' hopes of contending for a World Series title. Lindor is one of the best shortstops in baseball and was a key part of the Mets' success in the first half of the season. He is batting .258 with 20 home runs and 68 RBIs this season.
The Mets will now have to find a way to replace Lindor's production. One option is to move Jeff McNeil to shortstop and insert Eduardo Escobar at third base. Another option is to call up top prospect Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A.
The loss of Lindor is a major setback for the Mets, but they still have a strong team. They are currently in first place in the NL East and have a 5.5-game lead over the Atlanta Braves. The Mets will need to find a way to replace Lindor's production, but they should still be able to contend for a World Series title.
