Manchester City Wins FA Cup Semi-Final, Keeps Double Hopes Alive
Bernardo Silva Scores Late Winner Against Chelsea
Manchester City moved one step closer to a domestic double on Saturday, as Bernardo Silva's late goal earned them a 1-0 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium.
The match was a tight affair throughout, with both sides having chances to win it. Chelsea had the better of the early chances, with Mason Mount hitting the post in the first half. City grew into the game as the half wore on, and they had a great chance to take the lead when Riyad Mahrez was brought down in the penalty area. However, Kevin De Bruyne saw his spot-kick saved by Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The second half continued in the same vein, with both sides creating chances but neither able to find a breakthrough. It looked as though the game was heading for extra time, but Silva popped up with a late winner in the 8th minute.
The Portuguese midfielder picked up the ball on the right-hand side of the penalty area and cut inside. He then curled a low shot into the bottom corner, giving Arrizabalaga no chance.
The goal sparked wild celebrations from the City players and fans. It was a crucial victory for Pep Guardiola's side, who are now just one game away from winning the FA Cup for the second time in three years.
They will face Liverpool in the final on May 28th at Wembley Stadium.
